INFO ABOUT COURSE

GWO Fire Awareness

The Global Wind Organization (GWO) BST (Basic Safety Training) course is essential training for workers in the wind industry, both onshore and offshore. It is designed to provide participants with a solid foundation in safety and critical skills for working on wind farms. The key aspects of GWO’s BST training for both onshore and offshore workers are described here.

Secure your professional future with GWO (Global Wind Organization) professional competence certification.

Target Audience

GWO Fire Awareness module is to enable the participants to prevent fires, make appropriate judgements when evaluating a fire, manage evacuation of personnel and ensure all are safely accounted for in the event of an unmanageable fire. If the incident is judged to be safe, the participants should be able to efficiently extinguish an initial fire by using basic handheld firefighting equipment.

Prerequisites

In order to complete GWO Fire Awareness course, delegates must be WINDA registered before arriving for the course.

Objective

GWO Fire Awareness ensures delegates possess necessary knowledge of the hazards they may encounter within the wind industry, and have the skills to control and mitigate these hazards.

The course provides the knowledge, skills and confidence to appropriately respond in the event of an emergency on an offshore wind installation.

Delegates will learn the proper use of personal protective equipment, emergency equipment and procedures which increases safety in the wind industry. This training includes experience of a realistic environment, including ‘live’ fire training using a range of first aid fire appliance (FAFA) to combat a fire and evacuate to a safe environment.

Course Content

Delegates completing a GWO Fire Awareness training course will be able to;

  • Identify signs of fire Follow emergency escape procedures
  • Detect smoke
  • Recall contingency plans to wind turbines
  • Identify causes of fire within a wind turbine environment
  • Follow the correct procedures and operation for fire extinguishing with firefighting equipment
Exam

The course is a mix of both practical and theoretical sessions during which delegates will be required to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the course contents.

Upon successful completion, participants will receive a GWO Fire Awareness certificate, valid for two years and recognized globally in the wind energy sector.
